Cookie Policy

WHAT IS A COOKIE

Cookies are small text files which websites send to the visiting user’s device (p.c., tablet, smartphone or notebook) where they are stored, to be then transmitted back to the same website upon the next visit. Cookies are used for IT authentication, session monitoring and information storing on websites (without "technical" cookies, some operations would turn out to be highly complex or impossible to execute). Through cookies you can also monitor browsing habits, and gather data on preferences, inclinations and personal choices, allowing the assembly of detailed consumer profiles. For in-depth information please visit the Privacy Protection Authority website.

COOKIE TYPES

Cookies may be split in two macro categories: "technical" cookies and "profiling" cookies:

Technical cookies.
They are used for the sole purpose of performing a communication transmission on an electronic communication network, or when strictly necessary to provide a service explicitly requested by the user. In other words, these cookies are essential for the website’s functioning, or are necessary to perform activities requested by users. They may be subdivided into:

navigation or session cookies: they ensure the regular navigation on and use of a website (e.g. allowing the fulfilment of a purchase or authentication to access restricted areas);

functionality cookies: they allow user navigation based on a series of selected criteria (e.g. language or products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service rendered to the same user;

analytics cookies: they are equivalent to technical cookies when used directly by the website manager to gather aggregated information on the number of users and on how they visit the website;

User consent isn’t required for the installation of these cookies, although their notification is still mandatory.

Profiling cookies.
Their purpose is to create user-related profiles and they are utilised to send advertising messages consistent with the preferences displayed by the user during web navigation. Given the high degree of invasiveness these devices can have within the users’ private domain, European regulations require that users must be adequately informed on cookie use, and that they express their valid consent when it is expected that information will be stored on the device they use.

HOW TO DISABLE COOKIES

Most widely-used browsers feature the possibility of blocking third party cookies only, accepting only those present on the site. Moreover, some companies that generate cookies on third-party sites offer the possibility of disabling and/or inhibiting in a simple, quick fashion their cookies alone, also when they are anonymous, i.e. they don’t involve the recording of personal identification data (such as e.g. your IP address).
The majority of internet browsers are initially set to accept cookies automatically. Users may modify these settings to block cookies or to be alerted when cookies are sent to their own devices. Users may refer to their browser’s instruction manual or help screenshot to discover how to adjust or modify their browser’s settings. In the case of different devices (e.g. a p.c., smartphone, tablet etc.) users will need to ensure that each browser on each device is set to reflect their own cookie preferences.
